"First of all, I'm sorry, but let me correct you," Mr. Kwatra said. "The whole of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. The only thing to be settled is the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir."

In a live interview, India's Ambassador to the United States Vinay Kwatra firmly corrected CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer when he used the term "Indian-administered" to describe areas of Kashmir.

"First of all, I'm sorry, but let me correct you," Mr. Kwatra said. "The whole of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. The only thing to be settled is the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir."

Blitzer made the remark during a discussion of news of explosions in the area. To this, Mr. Kwatra confirmed having received intel on activity but followed it up with, "We don't have the operational details relating to that."

In the same interview, Mr. Kwatra vehemently denounced the terror strike in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 individuals. Describing the attack as "the most heinous terrorist act," he stated, "Our top priority was to bring these lowlifes, subhuman beasts to justice and provide justice to the victims."

He also made a sharp verbal attack on Pakistan, blaming Pakistan for taking sides with the terrorists. "What it indicates to the world is that Pakistan has once again chosen to side with the terrorists. Instead of acting against them, they are really giving them support," he stated. "We would not be shocked if they themselves were complicit in this."

Kwatra underlined, "That's the message they're sending to the world: that they are with terrorists, not with the rest of the civilised world, in these brutal killings of innocent civilians."

These were uttered moments after India's Operation Sindoor, directed at nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in response to the Pahalgam attack. The Defence Ministry announced that more than 100 terrorists had been eliminated in the operation.

Referring to the operation, Mr. Kwatra stated, "In no world would you give such terrorists a free pass. And that is what we exactly did in Operation Sindoor."

He referred to the action as "a very calculated, calibrated, measured response to these terrorists, to their factories, to their integrated facilities, which they operate out of Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir."

In reference to Pakistan's denial of their role in the Pahalgam attack, Mr. Kwatra said, "Denial and obfuscation have always been the first part of Pakistan's strategy."

"They have this peculiar trait where they take responsibility for their past deeds in the future, not now," he added.

In response to the question of whether the world is concerned about increased tensions between Pakistan and India on the verge of spiraling out into a nuclear war, Ambassador Kwatra commented that the cause for concern actually is Pakistan's continued support of terrorism.
